Lauri Sommer

Lauri Sommer’s “Stories from the South” is a selection of recordings from old cassettes. Some of them are based on old people’s stories, some on family tradition, some on folklore and some on fantasy. Some songs are given in both dialect and free translation. It is a kind of continuation of the two sections of Juhan Jaig’s “Võrumaa stories” based on old-fashioned storytelling and folklore. The locations of the stories are Võrumaa, Peipsiveer, Setomaa on both our and Petseri’s side, the island of Kulkna (Kolpino) and the village of Chudskaja Rudnitsa on the other shore of Lake Lämmijärv. Toomas Kuusing’s linocuts expand the foundations of Seto blood.
