“Kings”

Aki Suutari is a Finnish sculptor and designer born in 1981. He began his artistic and cultural career as a teacher and art assistant at the Retretti Art Center. He started creating his own art in 2009 and his first solo exhibition was in 2014, after which he has presented his work in Finland every year. His first exhibition abroad will take place at Tampere House.

The works of the crowned heads   and upper bodies belong to the series “Kings”, which was completed in 2019. The materials used are cellular clay, bronze, aluminum and precious metal for making crowns. The characters of the works are the kings of vanity. Characters trapped in damaging and life-limiting vanities. Topics that would be easy to change, but habit and laziness have taken over life. For some characters, vanity has become a matter of pride. Reason for justifying a stagnant life.
