Home – Tiina Nevalainen’s paintings
Tiina Nevalainen’s colorful abstract acrylic paintings tell stories of houses, homes, and broken everyday life, but also of joy and the happiness of being alive. Nevalainen’s exhibition will open on Thursday, February 6, at 5 PM at the Tampere House Gallery (address: Jaani 4, Tartu). The exhibition will be open until March 2.
“My colors are excessive. My hand moves the brush in a swirling motion, creating a smoothly flowing trace that at times turns into something strikingly violent,” the artist describes their technique. “How can such a small word,
home, contain so much information and emotion? Home represents security, tranquility, memories of the past, and plans for the future. It is a place where a person feels like their true self and where they can do things that matter to them.”
Nevalainen is a colorist who moves between representational and non-representational art, one composition at a time. The starting point of her painting is in personal experiences, a bubbling chaos in her mind. In her works, the inhibitions of depression transform into the voice of reason. “Structured light for all who need it,” Nevalainen sums up.
Tiina Nevalainen (b. 1967) works in Riihimäki. She graduated from the Lahti Institute of Fine Arts in 1994. She has held numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. In addition, she teaches art at Vanajavesi Institute and Riihimäki Adult Education Center.
