Tuula Sipilä is a Helsinki poet and entrepreneur in the field of communication. She currently lives and works in Tartu and works as the hostess of the Villa Tammekannu residence. His first collection of poetry was published in early 2015. Sipilä has been active in the Finnish poetry landscape, among other things he has been a representative of the Poetry Association and studied writing in various courses, such as at the Critical College (Kriittinen korkeakoulu) in 2014-2016.

Recently, in addition to writing, Sipilä has also treated letters as matter. As a result, visual and isemic poetry has been born, ie a kind of textual art in which words are illegible but convey other meanings.

Sipilä studies the physical properties of characters and creates various typographic settings. According to him, our information exchange environment is full of signs, logos and signals, the meaning of which can be mixed and blurred in the flood of information. Sipilä is primarily interested in mistakes and cases that create new associations.

Letters and meanings form a new and unique universe in visual literacy experiments. Words stretch into forms and pictures. The works seem to approach typographic art, but are often based on poetic imagery.

Sipilä’s text art is born on a computer keyboard and with Microsoft Word letter sets. The work is saved as pdf files and printed with a regular soot printer.

Additional information: tuula.sipila@sanasta.fi

The gallery of Tampere House is open every day from 8.00 to 18.00.
